Matt Beaver, RN, 5 North, became the 66th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on November 16, 2021.

Patients and their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses through a DAISY award nomination.

Matt was nominated by a man to whom he provided COVID care during his 17 day hospitalization. The nomination read, in part:

“I looked forward to seeing Matt come into my room because he always took the time to converse. I shared fishing stories about my 6 year old grandson crappie, bass and bluegill fishing in a farm pond with his dad, mom, and little sister. Of course, I had pictures to share. I even wrote Matt the secret recipe for my fish breading and the bait I use.”

“Conversing with Matt really aided me in the desire to shed this virus and think about what really matters. Matt, you are a truly “caregiver” in the greatest sense of the term and I thank you.”

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,800 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
