Lexy Michl Orr, RN, Blessed Beginnings became the 70th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on March 24, 2022.
Patients and their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses through a DAISY award nomination.
A patient to whom Lexy provided care during the birth of her first child nominated her for the award. The nomination read, in part:
“I was amazed by her ability to calm me down and help me to refocus as my labor intensified. As a registered nurse, I can honestly say I walked away from my experience at Blessing Hospital with Lexy as my nurse, with notes on how to improve myself as a nurse. I learned many things from her that I want to apply to patients I care for in the future in hopes of helping them feel the same sense of care and comfort I felt with her,” the woman stated.
“Looking back on our labor experience, my husband and I have talked many times about how lucky and grateful we were to have had Lexy’s care, as he felt the same sense of comfort and reassurance from her,” the nomination concluded.
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,800 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nominations forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and online here.
