Tinkerbell and her very grateful owner are on the road again.

The one-year-old Russell Terrier from Paris, Texas, was left alone in a semi-trailer cab on Sunday, May 1, when her owner, Mark Martin, pulled his big rig into a Blessing Hospital parking lot to be examined in the Emergency Center after feeling symptoms of a stroke.

After being stabilized and admitted, Mark told his nurse, Cameron Morford, about Tinkerbell being in the truck cab. Cameron found her there with plenty of food and water, but shaking with fear.

Blessing Foundation Administrative Director Ann Awerkamp-Dickson took Tinkerbell from Cameron and worked with the Quincy Humane Society to board the lonely dog while Mark recovered. On Thursday afternoon, May 5, Mark was discharged and reunited with Tinkerbell.  They were soon on the road again, bound for their Texas home.

“You are all heaven-sent,” the 64-year-old Mark said of those who cared for him and Tinkerbell since their unexpected arrival in Quincy on Sunday. “I was so scared. I didn’t know what to expect. Everyone’s been so nice and we’ve been treated better than we could anywhere else, I am sure. This was just an awesome experience for the conditions we were under. We were made to feel warm and welcome.”

While Mark got his health back, Tinkerbell received a bag of treats from the Quincy Humane Society team to pass the hours on the road to Paris. Donors to the Blessing Foundation paid the bill for Tinkerbell’s care and provided a donation to support the work of the Quincy Humane Society.

Wishes for safe travels and good health to our new friends, Tinkerbell and Mark.
