Lisa Neisen, Administrative Director, Corporate Communications, received a Who’s Your Angel nomination from the Edward Huner Family. The Foundation Office presented the Who’s Your Angel award on November 14.
Teresa Huner, Ed’s daughter stated, “Like any family with someone in the ICU your life changes immediately. Your focus becomes on the loved one needing your help and the care of the ICU unit. My family was no exception. Our husband/father was taken by ambulance to Blessing Emergency room in critical condition. The Blessing ER staff was extremely helpful and kept him alive to even be transferred to the ICU. As a family member you are struggling and are only thinking about the next minutes ahead.
Our family had struggles with the front check desk at the hospital almost every time we entered the hospital. It was a struggle to get them to admit us each time. There was only the three of us and we made medical decisions as a family, I understand rules however there needed to be some common sense and accountability along with the rules. I could not get any help with our situation. I know Lisa and have worked with her for years and love her as a person. I thought long and hard about calling her for help because I didn't want any special favors or treatment. I realize that not everyone with issues has the opportunity to know someone they can call. However, I was at a loss for the understanding and help to our situation. Knowing security was not Lisa's department, I was not sure if she could even help me.
Lisa had great compassion and understanding for our situation and knew what was happening with us dealing with the front desk, should not be happening to a family with a patient in ICU. Lisa went "above and beyond" until she finally found a solution to our problem. Unfortunately, our loved one passed away just a day later. But without Lisa's help a difficult situation would have been even harder.
Lisa called and checked on us to make sure things were ok and even attended the visitation. We are very thankful for Lisa and the care she provided for our family. I never want any family to feel like they have no recourse and no one they can go to for help! l am so thankful Lisa has such a kind heart and spirit and was willing to step in and help! We (The Huner Family) appreciate her and wanted to say Thank You!”
The “Who’s Your Angel” program is an opportunity for patients and their families to express their appreciation to anyone in the Health System who had a positive influence in their healthcare experience. When the donor makes a financial gift of any size in the name of the employee and writes up a story sharing the experience, the Foundation deposits the gift to the patient care area or restricted fund that most closely matches the employee(s) being honored or the reason for the patient’s time with the Health System. This donation was deposited to the Caring Club/Employee Crisis Fund. One hundred percent of Foundation gifts are designated to caring for patients in need.
Any staff member can be nominated for a Who’s Your Angel award, and nomination forms can be found in a surplus of Health System departments from Palmyra to Hannibal, Pittsfield, to Golden and more!
