Amanda Childress, RN, Centralized Staffing and Wayland Mutter, Intensivist, QMG, Blessing Intensive Care Unit, received Who’s Your Angel nominations from Will Spear and family. The Foundation Office presented the Who’s Your Angel awards on January 11.

Will stated about Amanda, “Coming to the hospital early to visit about my dad’s code status and having to discuss Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders with my father, was not on the list of things I was looking forward to. After a discussion with the nurses and Dr. Adam Reyburn, Amanda helped and encouraged me as I searched for words. She also took the time to help us contact and get medical records we needed. She followed up on any and all questions we had and was so kind and caring with my dad. Her bedside manner was excellent and you could tell she truly cared for her patients and loved her job.”

“Ten years ago, when my grandfather was dying, our family met Wayland as an RN in the Intensive Care Unit. This year, he helped us as we brought my dad in for care. He has always been kind, methodical, and has a great bedside manner with his patients. He also treats and discusses issues with patients and families and doesn’t assume we don’t know anything. It is refreshing. We knew that coming into the ICU from the Emergency Room, that we were in good hands when Wayland was on duty to care for him that night.”

The “Who’s Your Angel” program is an opportunity for patients and their families to express their appreciation to anyone in the Health System who had a positive influence in their healthcare experience. When the donor makes a financial gift of any size in the name of the employee and writes up a story sharing the experience, the Foundation deposits the gift to the patient care area or restricted fund that most closely matches the employee(s) being honored or the reason for the patient’s time with the Health System. This donation was deposited to the Heart & Vascular Center Fund. One hundred percent of Foundation gifts are designated to caring for patients in need.

Any staff member can be nominated for a Who’s Your Angel award, and nomination forms can be found in a surplus of Health System departments from Palmyra to Hannibal, Pittsfield, to Golden and more!
