Shelby Emerick, inpatient intervention therapist, Adolescent Psychiatric Services, earned Blessing Hospital’s 65th Honey Bee award during a surprise presentation on February 28. The Blessing Hospital Honey Bee award recognizes the exceptional service provided by support staff.

Shelby was nominated for her advocacy for a client who was being abused:

“Shelby can best be described as a guardian angel. She fought tirelessly for four years to get help for one of her clients who was being abused. She contacted numerous state agencies that did not help nor provide the support her client needed. Shelby provided safety and compassion to an abused child who was abandoned by their parents over and over again. She continued working to find her client help and met many dead ends. Shelby never gave up or abandoned her client like everyone else in their life. She was the only stability her client knew.

Finally, someone listened to her when the client became an adult this year. Because of her efforts, the client finally has a fresh start in life. Her client has a guardian and a stable home and is surrounded by new people who provide them with the tools they need to live their best life. Shelby’s client is happy and content in their safe new environment. This happened all because Shelby never gave up.

Seeing this in person has brought tears to my eyes as it restores my faith in humanity. The world would be a much better place if more people were like Shelby. I truly believe she saved her client’s life.”

Honey Bee award nomination forms are located on all nursing units and other locations throughout Blessing Hospital.
