Kelsey Hammel, CNA, Gen Med/Hospitalist/ODU, earned Blessing Hospital’s 68th Honey Bee award during a surprise presentation on May 30. The Blessing Hospital Honey Bee award recognizes the exceptional service provided by support staff.
Kelsey was nominated by a coworker. The nomination read, in part: “Kelsey has a true love for her patients. We had a patient with cerebral palsy whom she made a rapport with. When she went in to bathe him, she put on music and sang the songs with him. He enjoyed this. Whenever she came into his room afterward, he asked for music, so she would turn it back on and sing with him again.
He was also one who didn’t eat much. He ate one bite of breakfast and lunch, then refused the rest. She was able to get him to eat all of his supper that night.
I haven’t seen anyone put as much effort into caring for a patient as Kelsey did with this one. I truly believe she deserves the award for her love and dedication to this patient and to all for whom she cares.”
Honey Bee award nomination forms are located on all nursing units at Blessing Hospital.
