Precious Thomas, RN, 3 North, became the 99th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY award during a ceremony on August 26, 2024, for her extraordinary nursing care.

She was nominated by the wife of a man to whom she provided care. The nomination read in part: “Precious made him as comfortable as she could and eased my mind by answering all of my questions and reassuring me he was doing great. Her care was top notch and she checked on both of us often. Precious made me feel less anxious by caring so much and giving me hugs when she knew I needed them.

She discharged us and walked me to the car, telling me to contact her if I had any questions or needed anything at all. Precious gave me so much confidence that I would do a great job taking care of his wound at home.

I am so thankful for her. Her kindness and care will stick with me forever.”

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 5,400 healthcare providers and nursing education programs worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
