Patient-staff connections are not just made at the bedside. Just ask Jim Bearden, representative, Patient Access. He received the ICARE Compassion award during a ceremony on December 19, 2024.
Jim received two nominations from coworkers. The first read, in part: “Jim makes a great effort every day to try and make a connection with each and every patient who sits in his booth. There have been a few surgical patients who are very nervous for obvious reasons. There are times when Jim notices that the doctor performing the procedure is the same doctor that did his surgery as well. In these instances, Jim is able to confidently share his experience with that doctor and tell the patients how good of a job the surgeon did and how well he felt after the procedure. I have overheard multiple patients say that they felt a lot better about their upcoming surgery and thanked him for helping them shake off some of the nerves.”
The second nomination read, in part: “Jim has been recognized by name in Press Ganey surveys. He takes the time to get to know the patients while they are in front of him and if they have to return for any reason, they will usually ask to have him register them. Jim even gets recognized by other departments for his caring and helpful ways with our patients. I have been able to hear multiple interactions Jim has had with patients and co-workers and see how he carries our ICARE standards to heart and makes sure everyone leaves his desk with a smile.”
Blessing Health employees nominate their peers for an ICARE award based on their demonstration of any one – or all – of the Blessing Values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
