Job skills can be taught. Consistency, initiative, and heart for service – not so much – and those are the qualities that earned Melanie Garner the ICARE Award for Excellence. The Urology Patient Access Representative at Blessing Health Hannibal received the award during a surprise ceremony on May 28.
Blessing Health System employees nominate coworkers for an ICARE Award based on the nominee’s demonstration of one of the organization’s values – integrity, compassion, accountability, respect or excellence (ICARE) – or all five values.
The nomination submitted for Melanie stated, in part, “Excellence is the consistent pursuit of the highest standard of service, integrity, and compassion — not just meeting expectations, but exceeding them in ways that positively impact others. Melanie exemplifies this every single day.
What truly sets Melanie apart is her unwavering willingness to go above and beyond. If something needs to be done — even if it falls outside her job description — she never says no. She simply finds a way to make it happen. Whether resolving scheduling challenges, assisting anxious patients, or stepping in to support team members during high-volume moments, Melanie approaches every situation with a solution-focused mindset and genuine care.
Melanie elevates the patient experience beyond routine transactions. She doesn’t just check patients in — she connects with them. She anticipates needs, removes barriers, and creates an atmosphere of trust and comfort. Her consistency, initiative, and heart for service set a standard that inspires those around her and strengthens our entire team.”
Blessing Health System congratulates Melanie Garner for setting a standard of care that embodies what it means to be exceptional.
