Through the DAISY Award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members and volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.

Musolino was nominated by the Fussleman family for the care she provided to Bill Fussleman.  Bill’s daughter Joni wrote on behalf of the family, “This was the hardest thing because we never were a family who talked about death. Penny went above and beyond for our family. The way she explained things to us was so kind and caring that I thank God for her every day, for her gentle way of talking to us and being there for hugs when I thought I would fall to my knees. She was so wonderful with my Dad as well. It was like she was part of the family. I know my family is so grateful and she will always hold a place in our hearts.”

Musolino received a certificate, DAISY Award recipient pin, hand-carved stone sculpture entitled, “A Healer’s Touch” sculpted in Africa specifically for DAISY Award recipients, and a DAISY Award banner to display in her department.

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year old man who died of an immune system disorder began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day.  There are more than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide who participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY Award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital, other locations on the 11th Street campus and on the internet at blessinghospital.org/daisy.
