Dr. Conboy’s article is titled, “Ethical Challenges: Hospice Patients and Drug Diversion.” Drug diversion is the illegal distribution of prescription drugs or their use for unintended purposes. In light of the growing opioid abuse epidemic, the article discusses ethical principles that can assist hospice organizations in assessing proactively drug diversion risks in each patient situation and developing a plan to minimize risks identified.
In her role as Blessing’s Director of Clinical Ethics, Dr. Conboy helps ensure providers, patients and families have resources to address ethical concerns as they arise. As director of Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care, she is responsible for the team that delivers end-of-life care to patients and support to their loved ones in 10 west central Illinois counties.
Dr. Conboy holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Capella University, Minneapolis, MN; a Master of Science in Health Care Ethics degree from Creighton University, Omaha, NE; a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Master and Bachelor degree from Truman State University, Kirksville, MO. She is a licensed clinical social worker.
Dr. Conboy is a member of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities.
