Robert C. Johnson, MD, radiation oncologist, has joined the Blessing Cancer Center’s Radiation Oncology Department. Dr. Johnson is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. He attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he also completed his radiation oncology residency after an internship.

“My goal as a radiation oncologist is to provide the highest quality cancer care working in a team approach to bring the best expertise available to cure and compassionately care for my patients,” said Dr. Johnson.

Dr. Johnson joined the department following the retirement of Young Yu, MD, Medical Director, who served for over 40 years. Mark S. Khil, MD, will take over as Medical Director. Dr. Khil has been in the department for 15 years.

Dr. Khil is board certified by the American Board of Radiology. He attended the College of Medicine Seoul National University. He completed his fellowship, residency, and internship at the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center and Health Science Center.

Blessing Hospital's Radiation Oncologists work full-time at the Blessing Cancer Center and are on-site daily to oversee the radiation treatments of each cancer patient. They are assisted by a highly-trained team including a medical physicist and two dosimetrists as well as an experienced staff of radiation therapists and nurses.

The department offers the most technologically advanced radiation therapy, including Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), image-guided radiotherapy, superficial x-ray therapy for skin cancer and prostate brachytherapy. In 2015, the TrueBeam STx, the most advanced linear accelerator available, was installed. It uses enhanced, real-time imaging tools so the physicians can see the tumor more clearly and observe its movement during treatment. The technology allows for more precise and concise treatment.
