More single bed patient rooms are coming to Blessing Hospital. On Tuesday, July 24, the State of Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved Blessing’s plan to finish the fourth floor of its Moorman Pavilion building and add a 5th and 6th floor to it.

The additional rooms will not increase the number of patient beds at Blessing. It will, however, make the majority of medical-surgical rooms single bed rooms by moving 96 beds from the 1970 patient tower to create three floors of single bed rooms in Moorman Pavilion.

“We know when a person is hospitalized, it comes with stress and anxiety for them and their loved ones,” said Maureen Kahn, RN, MSN, MHA, president/chief executive officer, Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital. “A single bed room brings peace of mind that makes the experience easier to manage.”

In addition to increasing the number of single bed rooms for Blessing patients, the project will provide the space needed for Blessing to eventually ask for permission to remodel all patient floors in its 1970 patient tower.

“The additional rooms in Moorman Pavilion will address growing demand for patient care,” Kahn stated. “Having them will provide the space to also make it possible to remodel patient rooms in Blessing’s 1970 patient tower in the near future – with state permission - and change the care environment completely at Blessing for generations to come.”

The Moorman Pavilion expansion will be completed by early 2021.
