Construction on the facility that will help house the healthcare providers the region needs and will enhance access to healthcare officially began Wednesday, July 25.  Blessing Health System leaders, city officials and other invited guests ceremonially turned shovels full to dirt at 48th and Maine Street in Quincy to begin construction of a two story medical office building.

The building will be 80,000 square feet on seven acres of land. It will include provider offices, physical therapy and select radiology and laboratory services. The facility will also house a coffee shop and durable medical equipment store. Total construction cost is about $25 million.

“The medical office building will help house the providers we are actively recruiting to improve the health of our communities,” said Maureen Kahn, RN, MHA, MSN, president/chief executive officer, Blessing Health System/Blessing Hospital. “We are running short of existing space to house the providers the region needs. After examining a number of options, we determined building a medical office building at 48th and Maine was the best answer to meet the need. In granting the Certificate of Need for this project, the State of Illinois agreed with our assessment.”

“Additionally, access to healthcare is not only about getting an appointment when you need it, it is also important to have access where you need it,” she continued. “This facility will give residents on Quincy’s growing east side, and those from surrounding communities, a bit easier access to the healthcare they need.”

The as-of-yet-unnamed medical office building is schedule to open by 2021.
