Residency Special Features

The Pharmacy Residency Program is an ASHP accredited program at Blessing Hospital that exposes the resident to a community hospital setting, preparing them for a future prominent role in patient care or further training with a PGY2 pharmacy residency. 

The program is tailored to the resident’s areas of interest, with flexible rotation schedules.  Core rotations include critical care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, family practice, antimicrobial stewardship, and practice management. 

The resident will obtain a teaching certificate through Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville School of Pharmacy and be able to precept pharmacy students. Paid registration for the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists Antimicrobial Stewardship Certification Program will be provided as well. The resident will attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and complete a major project to be presented at the Great Lakes Residency Conference.

Site Special Features 

Blessing Hospital is the largest and most sophisticated medical center in a 100-mile radius, with a medical staff of more than 240 doctors and a team of more than 2,300 employees. The hospital is recognized as a national Chest Pain Center with additional recognition of its PCI capabilities, Primary Stroke Center, and Joint Commission certification for its care of patients with sepsis. The Emergency Department is a level II trauma center. 

Blessing Hospital provides training for the Quincy Family Practice Residency Program and Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The Pharmacy Department also provides training to several nearby pharmacy schools, including St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville School of Pharmacy, and Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
