Robin Tucker, RN, 3 North unit, Blessing Hospital, became the 39th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award on May 30, 2019.

Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.

Robin was nominated by the daughter-in-law of a woman to whom she provided care.  The nomination read, in part:

“Robin's skills as a nurse are beyond excellent, but it is her approach to people that distinguishes her as a blessing straight from God. I value every conversation we shared because of how they made me feel. Through her compassionate guidance and advice, I came to understand that my mother-in-law was on her way to Heaven and that an earthly healing wasn't likely. Robin gently, yet clearly, helped me and my husband know how to think about what she was experiencing. I was able to explain this to the rest of the family and that was significant beyond measure.”

“Robin's ability to empathize and yet be open and clear at the same time is unsurpassed,” the nomination continued. “And when my mother-in-law was passing, Robin sat at her bedside so she wasn't alone until a family member was there. As I couldn't be in Quincy because my own 81-year-old mother was going through hip replacement surgery several hours away, Robin became my eyes and ears and took care of my heart in my frustration at not being able to be there personally. When I called to thank her again, she talked with me and cried with me as I put it all into perspective.”

“I have been a healthcare consultant for an international firm for over 21 years and have come into contact with countless healthcare professionals. Without a doubt, Robin Tucker stands out as the most exemplary I have ever met. She sets the gold standard for nursing care and more importantly, as a human being,” the nomination concluded

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day.  More than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital, other locations on the 11th Street campus and online here
