Cindy Hoewing, RN, Emergency Center, Blessing Hospital, became the 44th Blessing nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on November 1.
Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.
Cindy was nominated by Scott Koontz for the care she provided the Koontz family upon the passing of Dale Koontz, who was brought to the Blessing Hospital Emergency Center after being found unresponsive at home and did not regain consciousness.
“As we finally gathered the strength to leave, Cindy came up to my mother, who had just lost her husband, and consoled her. Her eyes were filled with so much empathy and compassion that it made my mother think she must know this person that she would be so deeply touched. Mom said, "Do I know you?" Cindy politely replied, "No, but I want you to know that you and your family will be in my prayers." In the moment of our family's greatest grief, this professional provided the only care that was left to provide. And it was deeply appreciated. Cindy's service to this family was more than I could have expected.”
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and online here.
