Gerri Buss, MS, RN, and Tammie Verzino, BSN, RN, Performance Excellence, Blessing Hospital, delivered a presentation entitled, “Multidisciplinary Approaches to Successfully Beating Sepsis”, at the 2017 Vizient Clinical Connections Summit in Denver, CO.

Sepsis is the result of an untreated infection that affects multiple organs and can be fatal. Buss and Verzino discussed Blessing Hospital’s work since 2011 to reduce Sepsis deaths by implementing national treatment guidelines.  They shared the presentation with staff from the universities of Nebraska and Alabama at Birmingham.

Vizient, Inc., is the nation’s largest member-driven healthcare improvement and service company.

Buss is a Performance Excellence Consultant.  She worked at St. Mary Hospital in Quincy from 1980 to 1993, when she joined the Blessing Hospital staff.  Buss earned her Master of Science degree from the University of Missouri. She is a member of the American Society for Quality, president-elect of the Pi Pi Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society or Nursing, board member of the North Adams Home, Mendon, IL, and a resident of Mendon.

Verzino is a 19-year member of the Blessing Hospital nursing staff. A graduate of Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences, and a member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality.
