Daniel (Dan) Brothers, Senior Chaplain, Blessing Hospital, retires January 2 after 30 years of service.
Rev. Brothers holds a Master of Divinity degree in Family Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO. He is a Board Certified Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy, and Associate Supervisor, Clinical Pastoral Education-International.
Before joining Blessing Hospital, Rev. Brothers was a staff chaplain at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA; and Associate Director of Pastoral Care, University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia, MO.
Rev. Brothers helped shape the volunteer chaplain program at Blessing into what it is today as one of the first such programs at any hospital in the country. Membership today includes 90 people, both ordained and lay person, who serve in roles including chaplain, chaplain assistant and communion minister who are available around the clock, seven days a week to serve the spiritual needs of patients, their families and staff members. In 1994, the Blessing Hospital Volunteer Chaplain
Program earned the American Hospital Association Volunteer Award.
In addition to his Master of Divinity degree, Rev. Brothers is graduate of his hometown high school in Carrier Mills, IL. He holds an Associate in Arts degree in Commercial Art and Illustration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Christianity from Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, MO. He completed a Residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at North Carolina Baptist Medical Center, Bowman-Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC; and a three-year Residency in Supervisory Clinical Pastoral Education, with the Heart of America Clinical Pastoral Education Center, Kansas City, MO.
In December 2019, the members of the Executive Committee of the Blessing Hospital Volunteer Chaplain Program named Rev. Brothers Chaplain of the Month.
