Nurses at Blessing Hospital have been providing exceptional nursing care to patients and families for over 125 years. I am very proud of the rich traditions at Blessing. Nurses at Blessing practice both the art and science of nursing. Every day they provide safe, high quality care that is evidenced based. Our nurses strive to create a caring and healing environment, making a true human connection, for every patient and family member we come into contact with. This fulfills our nursing mission of nursing excellence: touching the lives of our communities, one person at a time.
At Blessing we nurture our patients as well as our staff. We encourage and empower nurses to influence how they deliver care and to be involved in decisions that impact their practice and practice environment. We also encourage nurses to further their knowledge through conferences, certifications and online learning.
I am inspired by the dedication of our nurses to our patients and each other. I am proud of the opportunity to work among such a talented nursing team.
The Professional Practice Council is a council comprised of clinical and non-clinical nurses that focus on the profession of nursing. This team of nurses developed and implemented our Professional Practice Model. They wanted it to symbolize how nursing care is delivered at Blessing Hospital, how the nurses develop professionally, and the importance of the relationship and collaboration with the healthcare team.
The bridge is a symbol of Quincy, IL, representing the 2 bridges in Quincy that connect IL to MO across the mighty Mississippi. It was important to the nurses to incorporate the symbol of Quincy into our design. Quincy is the home of Blessing Hospital which was founded over 125 years ago. Our nurses are proud of the rich history Blessing has for Quincy.
Relationship-Based Care (RBC) is the care model we practice here at Blessing. RBC serves as our foundation of nursing practice and is seen as the foundation of the bridge. Relationship Based Care highlights three key relationships. The relationship with yourself, the relationship with your peers/coworkers, and the relationship with patients and families. These are represented above the bridge keeping the patient and family at the center of all we do. Relationship based care principles describe how nurses practice, by putting the patient/families first, and collaborating with colleagues as we instill the importance of our relationships with our colleagues. Working together with our colleagues, communicating the plan of care or treatment protocols to make sure we are on the same page in caring for our patients.
In the water always surrounding the bridge is “True Human Connection”. This is what we strive for in our everyday interactions with our patients, families, and peers. This enhances our foundational relationship based care by building trust and creating open lines of communication with our patients, families, and coworkers.
In the sky you notice a cloud with the Blessing Hospital system aim “Patients first because ICARE”. This was developed to keep the patient in our focus. The patient is at the center of our mind when we are scheduling procedures, discussing discharge plans, including family in education, and collaborating with all care providers. ICARE principles are always there, our goal in all our endeavors, as we reach for the sky.
The last representation is the sun. The sun represents professional growth and development. We all know how much more we grow and develop with sunshine. The sun represents programs that contribute to a nurse’s growth and development including education, certification, and our clinical advancement program, Career CARE, as well as other continuing education offerings.
