About Me

The son of a registered nurse, upon graduation from high school in Keokuk, Iowa, Toby Vandenberg knew he would be a doctor.

“I was getting a degree in biology and chemistry and it was just fascinating to keep learning. I wanted to go down a route where I could keep learning about life and the body.”

The future Dr. Vandenberg also knew that earning his medical degree as a member of the United States Army would be cost effective and an exciting way to reach his goal.

“It was an amazing experience,” he said of his 12-year military career. “You meet people from everywhere, and the education and training was outstanding.”

Dr. Vandenberg excelled in the military, and in his medical education, earning awards in both including graduating Cum Laude from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, and attaining a score of 98% on his national emergency medicine certification examination.

In addition to a love of the diversity and excitement of emergency medicine, Dr. Vandenberg enjoys outdoor activities, including one he learned from his father – training and riding horses.
