About Me

Medicine was a natural choice for me as a profession; it was in the genes. My father is a retired academic hematologist with specialization in acute leukemia, and my mother is a retired surgical nurse and retired doctor of anthropology with interest in pre-spanish conquest Aztec culture. My college roommate at the University of Pennsylvania once remarked, “I bet you have interesting table conversation.”

My family is most noteworthy for their kindness, generosity, honesty and forthrightness. I am an excellent and compassionate listener. This is the key to creating and maintaining a good relationship with patients and their families. The most successful outcomes occur when there is an active dialogue between the patient and doctor. I encourage my patients to self educate and to discuss issues. Teaching is important to providing exceptional care.

Why do I take care of persons with cancer and blood disorders? It is my calling. There is no greater joy than restoration of health.
