The first-ever Blessing Hospital DAISY Team award was presented to the entire departments of Nursing Professional Development and Organizational Development, and select representative of several other departments. The more than 40 individuals involved were recognized for their role in planning and conducting the cross-training of 477 employees over five weeks to meet the demands of Blessing’s COVID-19 response.
Kendra Meany, manager, Nursing Professional Development wrote the nomination which stated, in part:
“Perhaps my favorite part about this project is that it allowed us the opportunity to welcome staff of the health system to Blessing Hospital, who otherwise may not have experienced the hospital side of nursing. We were given the opportunity to work with Hannibal Clinic, Blessing Physician Services, and outlying rural clinics.”
“This cross training process required multi department collaboration. Just one piece of the puzzle missing could break the experience for a staff member,” Kendra continued. “We wouldn’t have been successful in the project without the labor pool who did all the scheduling, IS who built computer access in a days’ notice, Pharmacy who put in AccuDose access at lightning speed, Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences who allowed use of its classroom, Security who made sure badges allowed employee’s access to the correct rooms, Organizational Development, Surgery Center and Surgical Services who so graciously allowed previous educators to help deploy education.”
“The list goes on and on. I could not be prouder of our health systems response to a difficult situation and the actions that the NPD/OD teams took to do their part in safeguarding our community,” she concluded.
