Glenna J. Brandstatt, Coder II, Health Information Management, Blessing Hospital, retires on February 9 after 40 years of service.

A graduate of Gem City College’s Medical Secretarial Program, Brandstatt worked as a transcriptionist at Physicians and Surgeons Clinic in Quincy before joining Blessing Hospital in 1978 as the secretary in the Anesthesia department. During her career in the department she held titles including senior secretary and administrative assistant.

After passing her national certification exam in 2011, Brandstatt’s main duty became coding and billing of all anesthesia claims for the Blessing Surgery Department, Surgery Center and Pain Clinic. In 2015, with national implementation of ICD-10 coding, Brandstatt moved to the Health Information Management department where she was a Certified Anesthesia and Pain Management Coder (CANPC).

Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Professional Coders and the Association of Executive and Administrative Professionals. Brandstatt is also a board member of the Blessing Health System Ten Year Plus Club and a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Adams County.

A resident of Palmyra, she and her husband, Mike, have a daughter, Cara, in Hannibal, a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Rebecca and two granddaughters, Cora and Ava in Louisville, KY.
