Mel Peters, diagnostic technician, Blessing Health Hannibal Cancer Center infusion center, earned the 74th Honey Bee award during a presentation on November 14. The Blessing Honey Bee award recognizes the exceptional service provided by support staff.
Mel was nominated by three of her coworkers for her response to a delicate and significant situation with a patient.
“While drawing labs on a patient, Mel discovered the patient had a bad case of bed bugs. She was able to get a sample of the bugs and acted immediately to confine the issue and keep it from spreading to other patients and staff while being polite to the patient affected.
Mel was able to find out more about the patient’s living conditions and got social services involved. The patient was very grateful.
Mel definitely saved the day for a lot of staff and other patients, while identifying a patient in need of additional resources at home. Mel always goes above and beyond, not just this day but every day.”
