Gloria Brooks, registered respiratory therapist (RRT) and supervisor, Respiratory Services Department, Blessing Hospital, retires June 5, 2024, after 44 years of service.

A Quincy native, Brooks began working at Blessing as a night shift nurse’s aide on a surgical unit. She then served in the critical care units before becoming interested in respiratory therapy in 1981. Brooks would eventually be promoted to respiratory services department night shift supervisor. She has held the supervisor position for the past 20 years covering all shifts.

“The best part of working in the healthcare field has always been the patients and their families,” Brooks said. “My goal was to be at my best because often my patients were at their worst in terms of their health, and to deliver care, kindness and empathy and sometimes to just listen.”

She is a graduate of the California College of Respiratory Care and completed coursework at John Wood Community College to obtain her National Board of Respiratory Care registry.

Brooks is the mother of three, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of one.
