Blessing Hospital was awarded an ‘A’ from the Leapfrog Group in the group’s fall 2020 Hospital Safety Grade report. This national distinction recognizes the hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Leapfrog Group assigns a safety grade of A through F every six months to the more than 2,600 general hospitals across the country. The grade is based on a hospital’s performance in up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data, including preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Patient safety is a top priority at Blessing Hospital every day,” said Maureen Kahn, RN, MHA, MSN, president/chief executive officer, Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital. “However, this distinction takes on an additional element of importance during the pandemic, when family and friends cannot always visit their hospitalized loved ones.”

“I hope through the patient safety grade of “A” earned by Blessing Hospital, family and friends of our patients are reassured that their loved ones are receiving the safest care possible, as determined by this respected national organization, and they find comfort in that knowledge,” Kahn concluded.

“We are extremely grateful to hospital leadership and health care workers who have remained steadfast in prioritizing patient safety as our nation battles COVID-19,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This ‘A’ is a testament to the care and commitment of those who work for Blessing Hospital. With the current pandemic exposing existing flaws within the U.S. health care system, we appreciate you putting patient safety first. Lives depend on it.”
