Meredith Hyer RN, Centralized Staffing, became the 88th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY award during a ceremony on September 18, 2023.

She was nominated by a doctor for her role in facilitating communication with the family of a patient she was caring for:
“Meredith called me on her personal phone to talk to the family so a decision could be made whether or not to go forward with surgery. After speaking with the family, the decision was for surgery. Meredith was very proactive to go ahead and get a consent for surgery at that time. She showed such compassion and went out of her way to advocate for the patient and, on top of it, was very proactive to make sure the patient had the information they needed.”

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 5,400 healthcare providers and nursing education programs worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
