Kobe Williams’s grandmother, aunt and great-aunt were all Blessing Hospital nurses. On January 27, Kobe, a second-year nurse, added a special honor to his family’s caregiving legacy when he received Blessing’s 117th DAISY award. The DAISY award recognizes extraordinary nurses around the world who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day.

Kobe, a member of the 3 North medical-surgical unit team, was nominated by a family member of a patient who wrote:

“All the nurses at Blessing have been wonderful. But Kobe’s instincts and actions stood out. He did things for my Dad without me asking.

He spoke up so Dad could hear him without his hearing aids. He checked frequently to see if bed linen needed to be changed or to straighten the sheets for Dad’s comfort. When he noticed possible sores on Dad, he was quick to take care of them. Kobe asked about a nebulizer treatment when Dad was coughing, and as he promised, he ordered Dad’s breakfast for him.

All of these things, individually, may seem small, but what they meant to my Dad was care for his health and comfort.

Kobe has the instinct of what people need and follows through. He is an amazing nurse.”

During his first year at Blessing, Kobe was nominated for the annual Nurse Week Year One Wonder Award, and has a total of seven DAISY nominations. A member of the patient experience team says Kobe’s exceptional nursing care is mentioned frequently during her face-to-face rounding with patients and on patient satisfaction surveys.

Thank you, Kobe. Your skill and compassion serves as an example for all.

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory. More than 5,400 healthcare providers and nursing education programs worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

Patients and their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses through a DAISY award nomination. Click here for a nomination form.
