Tana Logue, RN, Intensive Care Unit, became the 83rd Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY award during a ceremony on April 23, 2023.
She was nominated by the daughter of a patient who was suffering from double pneumonia, a blockage in her left kidney, atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) and sepsis (a potentially fatal infection). The nomination read, in part:
“All these words scared me to death. In the ICU, nurse Tana Logue was assigned to mom. Tana barely left my mom’s side. She was there to care for her and save her life. Tana talked to my mom about everything that was happening to her and what was being done to her, even though my mom was not responding to her. Tana cared for my mom as if she was her own family member.”
“She knew how scared I was and went above and beyond to help me understand,” the nomination continued. “Tana cared for me with her kind words, her caring hand and her whole heart. My mom was in the ICU for 12 days and received the absolute best care possible. Although my mom does not remember her stay there she is doing very well now.”
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,800 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
