Marcia Anderson, LPN, gastroenterology, Blessing Health Hannibal, helped a patient arrange an emergency colonoscopy for her father and earned Blessing’s 78th Honey Bee award for her effort.
The father was from out-of-town and needed a colonoscopy before he could begin receiving treatment for bladder cancer in Columbia, Missouri. The daughter could not find a gastroenterologist available where her father lived, so she reached out to her caregivers at Blessing Health Hannibal for help.
Her nomination read, in part:
“I called the Blessing Health Hannibal GI office and talked with Marcia. I explained that my dad's chemo and radiation were scheduled to begin in less than three weeks and, to not delay treatment, he needed a colonoscopy and the results back prior to starting treatment. As promised, Marcia called me back later the same day. There had been a cancellation in a week. Hallelujah!
There was a lot to do in a very short period of time. My dad had never been to Blessing Health Hannibal nor any Blessing facility, so Marcia was starting from scratch. She got him in the system, got him scheduled with the Ambulatory Surgery Center, scheduled him to see Dr. Katbamna on Monday in clinic, and Tuesday was the colonoscopy.
Marcia worked hard to get my dad scheduled in clinic on Monday, because he lives in Kirksville. That way, he could spend the night with me and didn't have to drive to Hannibal twice. That was so thoughtful of Marcia! She spent a lot of time with us in clinic that Monday. She's so easy to talk to! The colonoscopy and everything went as planned.
Marcia listens, acts, is helpful, caring, kind, does what she says she's going to do, and is compassionate. Everyone should be like Marcia.”
