Robin Litt, RN, Labor and Delivery, became the 86th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY award during a ceremony on July 18, 2023.
She was nominated by a patient she cared for during the birth of her child. The nomination read, in part:
“During labor, I began to break down worried about what was to come and processing everything that had happened. Robin was so quick to hold my hand and talk me through every step. She eased my every nerve. Robin spent a great deal of time working in mental health. This experience drives her care as a labor and delivery nurse. It was obvious that she cares about the physical and mental well-being of her patients.
Once my son was here, there were some health complications that led us to staying a week in the hospital. One day, after leaving the nursery, I began to break down. Robin was leaving the hospital after her long shift but had heard that I was in our room upset. She was dressed and ready to go home yet took the extra time to come ensure that I was okay. Robin held me while I cried and didn’t leave until I was doing better. It is a moment that I will cherish forever.”
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 5,400 healthcare providers and nursing education programs worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
