Macy Waterkotte, RN, Blessed Beginnings/Obstetrics, became the 50th Blessing nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on May 27, 2020.
Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.
Macy was nominated by a mother who had previously experienced a miscarriage. The nomination stated:
“When we got pregnant after our loss I was terrified of everything that could go wrong, making my already existing anxiety that much worse. My anxiety was greatly reduced the second Macy introduced herself during the shift change. I knew immediately that she was going to take care of me just by the way she talked. It was her attitude and energy that made me believe that I really could do this and there was absolutely no reason to worry because she had us. I would not have been able to have such an amazing birth experience without her.”
“After being taken to postpartum, my anxiety crept back a little knowing there were more change coming and I didn’t know if I’d have another nurse like her. That next evening she walked into my room and said she was going to be my nurse for the next 12 hours and I could’ve cried tears of joy. My husband even slept better that night knowing I was at ease because she was taking care of us. Macy, I cannot say thank you enough. I will forever remember my positive birth experience and you will always be one of the biggest reasons,” the nomination concluded.
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,000 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital, other locations on the 11th Street campus and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/patients/recognize-team-member.
