Kiran Datar, inpatient physical therapist, earned the 73rd Honey Bee award during a presentation on October 21. The Blessing Hospital Honey Bee award recognizes the exceptional service provided by support staff.

Kiran was nominated by a patient to whom he provided care after the patient broke their hip.  The patient said they felt “hopeless and with no confidence” that they would ever get back to where they were before the fall that led to the broken hip. Then, the patient began working with Kiran.

The nomination read, in part:

“I felt comfortable with Kiran, in spite of him gently pushing me beyond my self-imposed limits. Kiran never let me give up. He set new goals for distances to walk with my walker each and every day, and he made me feel like he had faith in my ability to achieve the goals. He cheered me on which helped me to develop confidence in myself and my ability to recover.

Kiran's kindness, smile, and demeanor had me looking forward to my therapy sessions every day. I never thought I'd shed tears leaving the hospital when I was discharged, but I did. The entire staff of the rehab unit was phenomenal, but I'd like to nominate Kiran for a Honey Bee Award. Without him I wouldn't have progressed as quickly as I did. As a matter of fact, I still feel Kiran's presence at home when I do my daily exercises that he recommended. I'm confident that I will fully recover because he instilled that confidence in me.”

Honey Bee award nomination forms are located on all nursing units at Blessing Hospital.
