The Blessing Weight Loss Center expanded its services with the addition of Erik Meidl, MD, Board certified Obesity Medicine physician, as of March 1. He joined surgeons Melissa Matrisch and Javeed Khan and nurse practitioner Jennifer Holcomb on the Center medical staff.
Dr. Meidl is a long-time internal medicine provider at Hannibal Clinic, an affiliate of Blessing Physician Services. He will maintain his Hannibal Clinic practice while also seeing patients at the Blessing Weight Loss Center in Quincy.
As an Obesity Medicine specialist, Dr. Meidl counsels patients on eating behaviors and physical activity, medication management and cognitive and behavioral methods required for successful weight loss. He works with patients who need to lose weight but do not need bariatric surgery; with patients who need care prior to undergoing bariatric surgery; or with those who have had bariatric surgery and need further care to maximize their weight loss.
In addition to being certified by the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, Dr. Meidl holds Specialist Certification of Obesity Professional Education from the World Obesity Federation. He also has been certified in medical ethics from the National Catholic Bioethics Center.
Dr. Meidl earned his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA; and completed an internal medicine residency Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA.
