The Quincy Hospitality House Board of Directors has launched a $2 million fundraising campaign to replace its 70-year-old, two-story structure at 1129 Oak Street with a modern, more customer-friendly facility.

Founded in 1998 by Blessing Hospital, its Volunteer Services Department and the Adams County Medical Alliance, the Quincy Hospitality House offers discounted daytime and overnight accommodations for patients and their families seeking healthcare in the Quincy area from any provider. More than 14,000 guests from across the United States and internationally have stayed at the Quincy Hospitality House, which is staffed seven days a week by volunteers.

“As demand for Quincy-based healthcare services has grown over the past two decades and particularly in recent years, it has become increasingly apparent that the current Quincy Hospitality House has fulfilled its useful life,” said Jayne Pieper, President of the Quincy Hospitality House. “At times we have had to turn away guests due to lack of capacity or lack of accommodations for guests with physical limitations.”

According to Building Committee Chairperson Brad Billings, the new home will be built at 11th and College on the Blessing Hospital campus, just north of the SIU Center for Family Medicine. The new facility will be ADA compliant, consisting of eight bedrooms with private baths, gathering and conference spaces, laundry facilities and a snack area. It will be named in memory of Teresa Adams, who was well known in the Quincy area for her exceptional hospitality and warm and welcoming personality. Adams lost a 12-year battle with cancer in 2019 and understood the importance of “home” and “comfort” in the process of receiving healthcare.

The Blessing Foundation serves as the project’s financial trustee. Donations to the Teresa Adams House can be mailed to the Blessing Foundation, 4939 Oak Street, PO Box 7005, Quincy, Illinois 62305 or made online at www.blessinghealth.org/giving.
