Dr. Valerie Hunter, Radiologist, Radiology Partners, received a Who’s Your Angel nomination from patient, Diane Nutter. The Foundation Office presented the Who’s Your Angel award on October 17.
Diane stated, “I was scheduled for a repeat mammogram and ultrasound due to abnormalities found on my Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) earlier this year. I did not question this appointment when we scheduled it, but as the appointment date was closing in, I wondered ‘why would we do a mammogram when only the ABUS had identified the previous abnormality?’ I presented this question to the Breast Center tech who talked to Dr. Hunter (she was not the Radiologist who read my results back in February), and she reviewed all of my previous films, then determined that an ultrasound was all that was indicated.
Dr. Hunter came and did the ultrasound, herself, and spent a lot of time doing and re-doing images to get the views of what she was looking for. She explained everything while she was with me, probably the most in-depth discussion I've had regarding my previous lumpectomy, risks of recurrence and remaining scar tissue since I had my first procedure over 20 years ago. I appreciate Dr. Hunter listening to my questions, educating me on what showed up on the ABUS originally, and why the ultrasound (which was what I was wanting) was the most indicative test for what we were needing to look at. Thank you, Dr. Hunter, for listening. I greatly appreciate you!”
The “Who’s Your Angel” program is an opportunity for patients and their families to express their appreciation to anyone in the Health System who had a positive influence in their healthcare experience. When the donor makes a financial gift of any size in the name of the employee and writes up a story sharing the experience, the Foundation deposits the gift to the patient care area or restricted fund that most closely matches the employee(s) being honored or the reason for the patient’s time with the Health System. This donation was deposited to the Breast Services Fund. One hundred percent of Foundation gifts are designated to caring for patients in need.
Any staff member can be nominated for a Who’s Your Angel award, and nomination forms can be found in a surplus of Health System departments from Palmyra to Hannibal, Pittsfield, to Golden and more!
