Imtiaz Alam, MD, gastroenterologist and hepatologist, Blessing Physician Services, was one of three researchers whose poster presentation received the Presidential Poster of Distinction award at the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease annual meeting in Boston, MA, November 8-12, 2019.

The presentation was entitled, “Hepatitis C Care Cascade Through Electronic Health Engagement.” The other two researchers involved in the study with Dr. Alam were from Austin Hepatitis Center, Austin, TX. 

Hepatitis C is a disease that causes inflammation and infection of the liver. Unlike hepatitis A and B, although efforts to create one continue. Hepatitis C is highly contagious, which explains the high number of people with the disease. There is no vaccine for hepatitis C, It can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Dr. Alam holds American Board of Medicine certification in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Dundee in Scotland; completed and internship at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA; a residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA; and a fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco.
