Laurie Dietrich, staffing clerk, Centralized Staffing, became the hospital’s 23rd Honey Bee Award winner during a surprise presentation on July 21, 2020.

The Blessing Hospital Honey Bee award recognizes the remarkable patient experience delivered by support staff employees.

Eydie Tipton, nurse researcher, Nursing Administration, nominated Laurie.

“I was working late one evening when Laurie came over to Nursing Administration looking for one of the leaders. I said the leader had left for the day, but I would be happy to help her.  Laurie said, ‘I wanted to talk to the leader to ask about when the psych techs will be out of training.  I’ve got to tell them about progress. They are working hard and I’ve got to keep them going.’  Laurie is the biggest cheerleader I have ever met. She understood that trying to cover safety sitters was putting a huge strain on our CNAs and she was working on keeping them motivated and engaged.”

“She’s always looking out for staff and encouraging them with kind words,” Eydie’s nomination continued.  “Laurie goes above and beyond to support the staff, not just in Centralized Staffing, but throughout the entire hospital. Her words of encouragement and support are why she is so loved. I have seen Laurie go up to the floor to check on staff when she knows they are having a rough night. She offers them support and encouragement. You won’t find anyone who has a bigger heart than Laurie.”

The Honey Bee Award complements the hospital’s DAISY Award. While the DAISY Award is for RNs, the Honey Bee Award is for support staff because, “you can’t have daisies without outstanding honey bees.”

Each Honey Bee Award honoree is recognized during a presentation. They receive a certificate, a tray of sticky buns, cookies and a jar of local honey.  The local honey signifies the role support staff plays in extraordinary patient care and customer service; they are the “sticky” honey that binds us together.

Honey Bee award nomination forms are located on all nursing units and other locations throughout Blessing Hospital.
