Beth Jones, RN, One Day Surgery, became the 61st Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on June 29, 2021.
Patients and their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses by nominating them for a DAISY award.
Beth was nominated by the wife of a man for whom Beth provided care. The couple’s ride back home could not make it to the hospital due to a storm. The nomination stated, in part:
“My husband and I are in our 70s. Beth saw our worry and concern and went way beyond any expectation for us,” the woman wrote. “This beautiful nurse arranged for us to stay at the Quincy Hospitality House, and had hospital security drive us there. Before being discharged, Beth also made sure my husband had enough pain medication as we were unable to pick up the prescription at a pharmacy. Then on this awful night, after her shift, on her way home she brought dinner.”
“Beth, in the worst weather and long day, deserves your highest award. She was our angel,” the nomination concluded.
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,000 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
