Vickie Baker, LPN, Blessing Health Center, received a Who’s Your Angel nomination from patient Mackenzie Leckbee. The Foundation Office presented the Who’s Your Angel award on February 13.
“Oh, my goodness. Where do I even start. Vickie and I met for the first-time early January. I was struggling with feeling terrible and not sure at the time what was going on with me. At my visit, I was a tearful mess and Vickie sat down and listened to my concerns and issues I was dealing with. She let me cry while telling me how much she was here for me and that if I needed anything at all to get ahold of her. She hugged me and reassured me things would get taken care of. Thankfully, we figured out what was going on with me and when we found out I needed surgery sooner rather than later, she made sure to work on it that day, within hours she had my surgery scheduled that same week.
She is a hard worker, a lover, and a caring whole-hearted person. It comes naturally for her. The day I had my surgery, a few hours later she called me to check up on me and check to see how I was doing as I was admitted to the hospital for observation after my surgery. That wasn't the only day she called to check on me, she called and checked on me the next day and even after I was discharged home from the hospital. I looked forward to her calls to talk, because it meant so much to me.
Her natural caring and loving nature really connected me to her and now I feel like she is a part of my family. Vickie, you are my angel!”
The “Who’s Your Angel” program is an opportunity for patients and their families to express their appreciation to anyone in the Health System who had a positive influence in their healthcare experience. When the donor makes a financial gift of any size in the name of the employee and writes up a story sharing the experience, the Foundation deposits the gift to the patient care area or restricted fund that most closely matches the employee(s) being honored or the reason for the patient’s time with the Health System. This donation was deposited to the Blessed Beginnings Fund. One hundred percent of Foundation gifts are designated to caring for patients in need.
Any staff member can be nominated for a Who’s Your Angel award, and nomination forms can be found in a surplus of Health System departments from Palmyra to Hannibal, Pittsfield, to Golden and more!
