Alison Desotel, RN, Women and Children unit, became the 91st Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY award during a ceremony on December 13, 2023, for her extraordinary nursing care
Alison, working the night shift, was nominated by a nurse leader for going above and beyond expectations during an emergency. The nomination read, in part: “A three-year-old suffering seizures presented to the Emergency Center, was stabilized and needed to be transferred quickly to St Louis Children’s Hospital. No air transportation was available due to the weather. Adams County Ambulance agreed to transport. They requested a nurse accompany them.”
The nomination continued, “I approached Alison with the idea of transporting the patient. She agreed. It was a blessing that she was willing to transport and that she was here that night. I cannot express to you the relief myself, the Emergency Center charge nurse and the family felt with the fact that Alison was a pediatric nurse and was going to accompany the patient.”
“Alison allowed for us to get this sick kiddo to Children’s sooner rather than later,” the nomination concluded.
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people through the work they do every day. More than 5,400 healthcare providers and nursing education programs worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
