What is CT?

CT stands for Computerized Tomography and is a form of x-ray combined with computer processing to create cross-sectional images of the body which can be used to help diagnose multiple diseases or injuries.

Where can I get a CT?

CT is available at multiple Blessing locations throughout the region including:

  • Blessing Hospital Quincy
    • Some advanced scans such as cardiac imaging are only available at Blessing Hospital Quincy.
  • Blessing Health Center 4800 Maine
  • Illini Community Hospital
  • Blessing Health Hannibal

Why would a patient choose Blessing for CT?

Blessing Health has trained registered technologists and is ACR (American College of Radiology) or DMV-GL accredited. Our CT equipment uses the latest software to allow the creation of 3D reconstructions and other advanced imaging.

What should a patient expect when they get a CT?

  1. During the exam, a patient will lie on a table that is attached to the CT scanner, which is a large doughnut-shaped machine. The CT scanner sends X-rays through the body area that is being studied.
  2. CT exams may be completed with or without contrast depending on provider order and protocols. Patients may have an IV placed and/or drink oral contrast. Additionally, some exams may require lab work to be done prior to your appointment.
  3. Most CT scans take between 5 -20 minutes
  4. Blessing offers many different CT scans to help identify injury, infection, or among other conditions.  Advanced imaging such as CT Cardiac Angiography can be used to diagnose heart disease without the need for cardiac catheterization.  CT scans are used to evaluate all parts of the body, including organs, bones, blood vessels, and the spinal cord.

How do you make an appointment?

Patients should contact their provider if they have specific questions about a test. For outside orders, centralized scheduling can assist in getting scheduled by calling (217) 223-8400 ext. 4300.
