Washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol hand sanitizer before and after each patient contact is the best way to prevent the spread of infections. Blessing hospital has educated all personnel on the importance if proper hand hygiene and holds staff accountable for compliance. The hospital monitors compliance by direct observation. To encourage staff, patients, families and visitors to practice hand hygiene, we have placed alcohol hand sanitizers in public areas throughout the hospital. The national average for hand hygiene compliance is less than 50 percent.
