Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): What You Need Should Know
As you age, your eyelids stretch and may become droopy. This sagging skin can affect your vision and make you look tired and older. You also may experience puffiness and bags under your eyes.
Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat and tightens the eyelid muscles and tissue to give you a younger, more refreshed appearance, while in some patients improving field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both to improve hooded eyes, drooping upper or lower lids, or bags under your eyes.
Arshad Muzaffar, MD, performs eyelid surgery in an outpatient setting. Your eyelids will be numbed and you will receive a sedative to help you relax. Typically, you can go home the same day.
You may have eyelid surgery at the same time as other procedures such as a brow lift or face lift.
Recovery
For a few days after eyelid surgery, your eyes may be dry, watery and/or sensitive to light. In addition, your eye area may be swollen and bruised for a couple of weeks. Any scars around your eyelids will fade over the coming months.
Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions about your care after your procedure.
