Brow Lift: What You Should Know

Sagging brows that hood the upper eyelids and/or vertical frown lines between your eyes and brows can make you look angry or tired. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can improve furrowed brows by removing part of the muscle between your brows and raising brows to a more awake, youthful position. A brow lift also can reduce horizontal forehead wrinkles that often come with age.

Arshad Muzaffar, MD, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, performs open and endoscopic brow lifts and face lifts for optimum results. Endoscopic brow lifts are performed through small incisions in the hairline, with an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera on the end) and special instruments to adjust tissue and muscle beneath the skin to correct creases.

You will receive sedation or general anesthesia during your procedure. Brow lift surgery is typically an outpatient procedure so you can go home the same day.

To further enhance your appearance, you may have complementing cosmetic procedures such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), or a facelift.

Recovery

After 10 to 14 days, your incisions should be healed enough to return to work and normal activity. Healing will continue for several weeks and incision lines will fade over time. Your full results of a more youthful appearance will appear within a few weeks after your procedure.

Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions about your care after your procedure.
