VBAC stands for vaginal birth after cesarean. Sometimes also called TOLAC, or trial of labor after a cesarean, VBAC is an option at Blessing Hospital for women who are eligible.

Why choose VBAC?

Women who have previously had a C-Section may choose natural labor for a number of reasons. Some women have had C-Sections previously for reasons beyond their control. A natural delivery is typically less invasive to the body and allows for quicker healing, an option some women would prefer.

Currently, as many as one-third of all deliveries are done by C-Section. When a woman is a good candidate for TOLAC and VBAC, her risk for complications during delivery and recovery, as well as future pregnancies and deliveries, decreases by having a successful vaginal delivery. Many women want to experience labor, so there is a strong sense of personal satisfaction with a successful VBAC.

Blessed Beginnings has contracted with an OB hospitalist group to join our maternity care team that adds an extra layer of coverage during the labor and delivery process. This allows for 24/7 OB coverage. The OB hospitalist collaborates with Blessing nursing staff and your OB doctor to provide safe labor care.

Eligibility for VBAC varies on a case by case basis. Women are encouraged to speak to their OBGYN to determine if VBAC is appropriate for their delivery.
