Donate Life Month - Courtney Edison's Story
Being an organ donor has always been very important to me. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help and care for people, which is why I chose nursing as a career! I was already a registered organ donor, but I am even more proud to be one now, in honor of my uncle.
My Uncle Tony was a hero in life, he was in the Air Force and served his country proudly, he was the best brother, uncle, son, and friend. A year ago in February, he became a hero in his death as well. When my Uncle Tony passed away unexpectedly in February of 2021, he was able to help and potentially save three people’s lives by donating his organs.
I miss him dearly, and am still so proud of him for what he was able to do for those who received his organs as well as their families. I have personally seen the other side - I have taken care of patients who received that precious gift, or taken care of family members of those that received this “gift of life.” It is amazing to hear their stories! It is the most amazing thing to witness! I am so thankful for not only my Uncle Tony’s gift, but for all of those who choose to be organ donors. I am an organ donor in the hope that I will be able to help people like my Uncle and so many others!
I want to sincerely thank all of those that support this very important cause!
