Blessing Health System is proud to support organ and tissue donation through the Gift of Hope and Donate Life programs. The Blessing Hospital Life Team is comprised of staff members who specialize in issues related to organ and tissue donation.

We encourage you to consider becoming a donor. Aside from major organs, donors can also gift tissue such as heart valves, skin, and tendons, or even give the gift of sight through cornea and eye donations.

In the state of Illinois, there is no age limit to become a donor. Whether or not someone can donate depends on their physical condition and the condition of their organs, not their age. Even those with underlying health issues may still be able to donate. However, there are a couple of important things to consider:

• In Illinois, family consent is no longer required for those older than 18 years of age, it is still important to talk to your family about your wish to be a donor.
• In Illinois, if you are under age 18, you may not join the registry and family consent is still required for donation to occur.
